Abstract:
In 1679, for the first time in its history, the Amsterdamse Schouwburg appointed an official dancing master, Jean du Temps. His successor Jacob Klein from 1690 to 1714, became one of the leading figures of the Schouwburg. This article explores the place of dance at the Amsterdam Theatre, and focuses in particular on the life and times of Jacob Klein.
