Abstract:
From 1759 to 1763 two young girls achieved an extraordinary popularity with Dutch audiences: their stage names were Caroline and Charlotte Frederic. The troupe that formed around them was skilfully managed by their father, Frederic Schreuder. Its final performance took place in 1763; the girls thereafter worked at the Comédie Italienne in Paris. This article examines their lives, identities, work schedule and repertoire, and presents a complete list of their known performances in Holland.
