Geschwandtner, Charlotte. "La moresca di Scanniccio." Biblioteca teatrale (2016): 109-122.

Abstract:
The moresca in Italy has mostly been studied as a lavish dance, an instrument of representation of the princely Renaissance courts. By adopting an anthropological perspective and broadening the field of enquiry to the popular culture, a more complete picture of the moresca phenomenology can be obtained. The descriptions contained in the early-sixteenth-century Sienese commedie, and especially in the play Scanniccio of Giovanni Roncaglia da Sarteano, constitute a useful resource in order to identify the link between the moresca and the feast in popular culture, and to study more in depth this dance practice.
