Riassunto:
L’esperienza di Gennaro Magri al Teatro Regio di Torino nel 1763, nei balli nelle opere Catone in Utica e Pelopida, si inscrive in una fase particolarmente interessante dell’attività dell’artista che va a coincidere con un periodo di profonda trasformazione del ballo nel teatro sabaudo. Nella seconda metà degli anni Cinquanta i balli tra gli atti delle opere torinesi iniziano ad allontanarsi dai modelli tradizionali per volgersi alla nuova formula del ballo narrativo che stava iniziando a farsi strada in tutta Europa. Questo clima ha una inevitabile ricaduta sul genere grottesco i cui danzatori, seppur radicati nella tradizione, sono costretti a piegarsi a una realtà piuttosto fluttuante prestandosi ad adattamenti che esulano dal ruolo d’ingaggio, quali, ad esempio, interpretazioni mimiche di genere serio che preludono alla nuova tipologia del “danzatore per le parti”.

Abstract:
Gennaro Magri’s experience at the Teatro Regio of Turin in 1763, in the dances of the operas Catone in Utica and Pelopida, belongs to a particularly interesting phase of the artist’s activity, coinciding with a period of profound transformation of dance in Piedmontese theatre. In the second half of the ’fifties, dances between the acts of operas in Turin started to leave behind traditional models and look to the new formula of narrative ballet that was starting to spread throughout Europe. Such a situation inevitably affected the grotesque genre, whose dancers – albeit rooted in tradition – were obliged to accept the new and rather fluctuating reality and adopt changes quite outside the role for which they were hired, such as, by way of example, miming performances belonging to the serious genre, foreshadowing the new typology of “danzatore per le parti”.
